T.W. Pitchers’ Brewing Company Expanding

SF-Based Craft Shandy Company Now Selling In South Carolina, Sacramento

San Francisco, CA, October 26, 2015 – Put your tray tables up and your seat in the full upright position, because it is time to rack up the frequent flyer miles. T.W. Pitchers’ Brewing Company is proud to announce partnerships with two new distributors – Mussetter Distributing covering the Sacramento, CA region, and Lee Distributors based in the Charleston, South Carolina area.

“We are extremely excited to begin our partnership with these two amazing distributors,” says Wilson Barr, co-founder of T.W. Pitchers’. “Both have phenomenal reputations in the industry, and we think our brand will be a great fit in their respective portfolios.”

Based in San Francisco, T.W. Pitchers’ Brewing Company was founded by Barr and Tommy Hester in the Summer of 2013 with the goal of becoming the first true craft shandy company in the United States. They launched with their first drink Snake Bite, an apple cider shandy, and are soon debuting their second drink, a grapefruit and blood orange Radler. Barr and Hester believe they’ll continue to find success with their brands as they branch out to new markets.

“Mussetter in Sacramento was such a great fit, being an award winning distributor so close to our original market of San Francisco,” explains Hester. “As part of the Reyes Beverage Group, Lee Distirbutors in South Carolina is a bit larger, but we had a great connection with them, and we couldn’t wait to jump on the opportunity to enter an exciting new region.”

“Plus,” adds Barr, “given the light, refreshing profile of our beers, we think the Southeast will be a particularly strong fit.” The company will start by selling kegged product in South Carolina, with their lineup of cans entering the market later this year.

The duo wouldn’t share specific details of their next distribution addition, but they are clearly excited for the future.

“As a small company, we look at expansion on a case-by-case basis to make sure our distributors fit our goals and align with what we’re aiming to do,” says Hester. “That being said, we’ve got a good thing going, and we are excited to keep expanding so people everywhere can see what a true craft shandy tastes like.”

Startup Brewery Becomes First Craft Shandy Company

Popularity of Shandies Growing As Beer Industry Warms to Concept

San Francisco, CA, August 12, 2015 – Summer is here, and that means one thing for Tommy Hester and Wilson Barr: it’s shandy time. Hester and Barr, founders of startup TW Pitchers Brewing Company, are aiming to pioneer the next big thing in the American beer industry by becoming the nation’s first small batch craft shandy company.

Shandies, which typically refer to a blend of beer and fruit juice or soda, have been popular for years in Europe, but are just starting to hit their stride in the United States. Many breweries across the country release a version of a lemon shandy as a seasonal release in the warmer months, but most consider it a side-show to their traditional beer brands, and very few put much artisanal effort into them. “The shandies we see coming out of most major American breweries are overly sweet, soulless lemon concoctions that are often pretty bland,” says Barr.

Even so, the popularity of shandies has been growing; IPA purists may still scoff at the idea of blending beer with other ingredients, but many consumers are turning towards shandies and fruit beers for a refreshing fix. TW Pitchers Brewing is hoping to quench the growing consumer interest by creating a line of high-quality shandies that stand out from other offerings. “We use real juice, all natural ingredients, and we brew in small batches. The result is apparent in a better tasting brew,” explains Hester.

TW Pitchers Brewing also plans to stand out from the crowd by focusing exclusively on shandies and producing them year round. “We are one of the first true craft shandy companies in the country, if not the first, and we offer shandies throughout the year so consumers have the option of drinking them whenever they want. We’re of the opinion that refreshing, approachable drinks don’t have a season,” remarks Barr.

TW Pitchers entered the shandy market with some gusto in 2013 by introducing Snake Bite – a blend of lager and apple cider. Snake Bite is based on a popular British pub-mixed shandy and is the first bottled version of the blend in the United States. Using juice from Fuji and Red Delicious apples, it profiles like a hard cider without the lingering sweetness and finishes clean and crisp like a beer. The company plans to introduce their second shandy in August – a grapefruit Radler with a hint of blood orange. “We are really excited to introduce Radler. It’s a unique take on a classic German shandy and it’s absolutely delicious,” says Hester.

TW Pitchers' Snake Bite Is Going International

San Francisco-based Lager and Cider Blend Now Available in Taiwan

San Francisco, CA, March 19, 2015 – I hope you brought your passport, because we’re flying international. T.W. Pitchers’ Brewing Company is excited to announce that Snake Bite® is now available for sale in Taiwan. Snake Bite will be distributed by Taihu Brewing Ltd. and will be sold in bars and stores predominately in the Taipei Area.

“We are thrilled to join up with Taihu Brewing Ltd. to bring Snake Bite over to Taiwan,” says Wilson Barr, co-founder of T.W. Pitchers’ Brewing Company. “This was kind of an opportunity that came out of left field for us, but one that we were happy to jump on and explore.”

Launched in the summer of 2013, Snake Bite is a refreshing blend of lager and crisp apple cider based on a popular British pub-mixed favorite. It's similar in taste to a traditional hard cider, but not as sweet. Upon drinking, full-bodied apples hit the pallet first, followed by subtle malt characteristics that provide a clean finish. Snake Bite is currently distributed in eight counties around the San Francisco Bay Area and can be found in Whole Foods, Cost Plus World Market, Mollie Stone’s Market, and Oliver’s Market among other accounts.

“We are excited to tap into a completely different market with the addition of Taiwan,” says Tommy Hester, co-founder with Barr. “Response from Northern California customers has been extremely positive, and we think that we can augment our American growth overseas.”

“Plus,” jokes Barr, “a business trip or two to Taiwan sounds pretty good to us.”
